Personalised Sun Map
The Sun on your date, photographed from space.
The Sun on your date, photographed from space.
From £21.99
The real Sun on your special moment. A photograph of the Sun taken from space by NASA on your chosen date, showing it exactly as it was that day.
Real moments. Real memories. Rated Excellent on Trustpilot.
A real photograph of the Sun from space on your date. From June 2010 the photo comes from NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory, and from 1996 to 2010 from SOHO, a joint mission of ESA and NASA. We use the photo taken closest to midday at your chosen place, and never one more than 12 hours away. It is taken in ultraviolet light, shown in orange as scientists show it, revealing the active regions and flares of that day.
No two days on the Sun look the same. Its active regions grow, fade and turn with the Sun, so your print shows the Sun exactly as it was on your date, with the solar cycle it was in and how far away it was that day.
Choose your design, then create your Sun map in around 60 seconds. Preview the real photo of your date and personalise the details before ordering.

Yes. Every Sun map is a real photograph of the Sun taken from space on your chosen date, never an illustration. We retrieve it from the space telescope archives for your date. From June 2010 it is usually taken by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO), and from 1996 to 2010 by SOHO, a joint mission of ESA and NASA. We use the photo taken closest to midday at the place you choose.
Annotations add three short facts either side of the small print. On the left: the day of the week, the star sign of your date and the solar cycle the Sun was in. In the middle, as always: your title, place, date and coordinates. On the right: the satellite that took your photo, the light it was taken in (ultraviolet), and how far the Sun was from Earth that day.
The photo is taken in ultraviolet light that our eyes cannot see, at a wavelength of 30.4 nanometres, given off by gas at around 50,000 degrees in the Sun's lower atmosphere. Scientists show this light in orange, and it reveals the bright active regions, loops and flares that make every day on the Sun look different.
Any date from 20 January 1996 up to today. That is when full resolution daily photos in this colour begin. On a handful of days there is no photo, mostly in the second half of 1998 when the SOHO satellite was briefly lost, and the page tells you if your date is one of them.
Yes. The Sun turns once about every 27 days and its active regions grow, fade and move, so no two days are the same. Your print shows the Sun exactly as it was on your date, along with the solar cycle it was in and how far away it was that day.
Only to set the time zone. The satellites photograph the Sun from space, so the picture is the same wherever you are, but your place decides when your day began and ended, and so which photo belongs to your date. Your place and its coordinates are also printed beneath the Sun.
Yes. The Sun fills exactly the same circle as our star maps, moon maps and solar system prints, with the same words and details underneath, so a set hangs together perfectly.
Five sizes, from A4 (21x30cm) up to 60x80cm, available framed in a premium wooden frame or unframed. Every print is made on 285gsm Museum Grade art cardstock with archival pigment inks and covered by our Lifetime Guarantee. If you are not happy with it, contact us within 100 days of purchase and return it in its original condition for a refund, even if it is personalised.
