Personalised Star Map

A star map is a picture of the night sky exactly as it looked from one place at one moment, calculated from real astronomical data for your date, time and location. Any date works, past or future, and you can preview your design live before ordering.

What is a star map? The full answer

Yes, they are different names for the same thing. A star map, star chart or night sky print shows the stars exactly as they were above one place at one moment.

Turn on constellations in the designer and it becomes a constellation map, with the patterns joined up so you can pick out Orion or the Great Bear.

Yes. You choose the date, time and place, anywhere in the world: the night you met, your wedding day, the day a child was born, or any other moment that matters.

Past and future dates both work, and you see a preview of your sky before you order. Our guide explains how to capture the night sky on a specific date.

Yes. Each star map is calculated from real astronomical data for your exact date, time and place, never a template or a reused image.

Do star maps show every star?
Our print engine uses a catalogue of more than 118,000 stars and calculates which lie above the horizon at your chosen date, time and location. We apply a brightness limit suited to the print size so the map stays readable. Larger prints include fainter stars, down to magnitude 7.3 on our 60×80 posters, beyond the usual naked-eye limit. What you can see outdoors also depends on light pollution and observing conditions.
