Capture Your Moment

A star map is a precise snapshot of the night sky from a specific date, time, and location on Earth. Each map shows the stars and their exact positions at an exact moment, calculated using real astronomical data rather than generic constellations or symbolic layouts.

At Picture the Stars, every star map is generated individually using your chosen details, then refined into a clean, beautiful modern design. This allows you to capture a meaningful moment, such as the night you met, got engaged, or were married, exactly as the sky appeared.

You can calculate star maps for dates in the past or future and preview your design live before ordering.

Yes. Picture the Stars star maps are scientifically accurate and have been continuously refined since 2018. As our flagship product, they've been optimised over years of real-world use, feedback, and refinement, with over 50,000 happy customers trusting us to capture their moments accurately.

Each star map is generated dynamically using real astronomical data for the exact date, time, and location you choose. We calculate the visible night sky for that specific moment, accounting for the Earth's rotation and the movement of stars over time.

We never use static images, generic templates, or copy-and-paste star overlays. Every design is generated individually from real data, ensuring the star positions and patterns are correct for your chosen moment. Completely unique and accurate, never approximated or reused.

Do star maps show every star?
Our print engine uses a catalogue of more than 118,000 stars and calculates which lie above the horizon at your chosen date, time and location. We apply a brightness limit suited to the print size so the map stays readable. Larger prints include fainter stars, down to magnitude 7.3 on our 60×80 posters, beyond the usual naked-eye limit. What you can see outdoors also depends on light pollution and observing conditions.

Since 2018, Picture the Stars has specialised in creating star maps built on real astronomical data. As our flagship product, star maps have been refined over years of development, customer feedback, and continuous improvement.
